Liz set for the trek of a lifetime

In November 2008, a team of local people will be taking on the challenge of trekking across the Sahara desert in aid of the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth.

One of this team is Liz Williamson, who has decided to take this on following a successful trek to the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco in 2007.

Liz is now a seasoned trekker and will not only be taking on the Sahara this year, but also Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK - all the time raising much needed funds for the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth.

Although Liz trekked the highest mountain in North Africa in 2007, the Sahara will prove to be completely different.

Instead of altitude to cope with, there will be the sand and high heat of the desert.

Liz said: "Originally I took part in the trek in Morocco because I had been training and needed a new challenge, but also a close friend passed away at the hospice and I felt I wanted to do this for a charity I had a link with.

"Having enjoyed myself so much though, I decided that I would take on something else for 2008."

If you'd like to join Liz on the Sahara trek contact Claire Notman on 029 2042 6068 or e-mail claire.notman@mariecurie.org.uk.
